Periodic inspections

As with most things in life, electrical installations over time deteriorate; on that basis, it is important that they are periodically tested to determine if any maintenance is required in order to ensure it is in, and working in a safe and serviceable condition. The frequency of periods between periodic inspections are determined by the type of installations (general, external and / or those open to the public) of which we can advise.

Routine testing and inspecting can save you time and money in the long term not to mention the safety aspect. Amazingly, an average of 12,500 house fires, 750 serious injuries and 10 deaths each year happen due to faulty electrics. Routine inspection together with maintenance will help to reduce this figure. A periodic inspection assesses the condition of the installation at intervals as required by the regulations and gives a precise indication as to the condition of the installation. Home buyers can take advantage of our home buyer survey before the purchase their new home. More and more properties are occupied before any formal information is received regarding the condition of the electrical system. A home buyer's survey could save you thousands.

Under the new law, homeowners are still able to replace accessories such as light switches and sockets to an existing circuit, although there are exceptions for locations such as kitchens and bathrooms. An electrician registered under a government-approved scheme must undertake all other work. The alternative, for DIY'ers, is to notify a local building control body before starting any work and pay the appropriate fee for an inspection and a certificate after work is completed. So why pay more?
